Pediatric Nephrology
Mission Statement of Pediatric Nephrology Department
To provide comprehensive, evidence-based, and compassionate care to children with kidney diseases while fostering excellence in education, research, and professional development in Pediatric Nephrology
Program Outcomes (POs)
- PO1: Clinical Competence
- Graduates will demonstrate competency in diagnosing and managing acute and chronic pediatric renal disorders including AKI, CKD, glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome, CAKUT, and electrolyte/acid-base disorders.
- PO2: Procedural Skills
- Graduates will acquire proficiency in procedures such as:
- Peritoneal dialysis (acute and chronic)
- Hemodialysis principles
- Renal biopsy assistance
- Vascular access management
- PO3: Critical Care & Emergency Management
- Ability to manage nephrological emergencies including hypertensive crises, severe electrolyte imbalance, and dialysis-related complications.
- PO4: Research & Academic Development
- Conduct and publish research in recognized journals.
- Develop skills in research methodology, biostatistics, and critical appraisal.
- PO5: Professionalism & Ethics
- Demonstrate ethical practice and effective communication with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Maintain professional integrity and lifelong learning.
- PO6: Leadership & Administrative Skills
- Participate in unit administration, quality improvement initiatives, and infection control practices.
- Contribute to curriculum development and academic activities.
- PO7: Community & Preventive Nephrology
- Promote early detection of kidney diseases.
- Conduct awareness programs regarding UTI prevention, CKD risk factors, and congenital anomalies of kidney and urinary tract.
Pediatric Nephrology subdivision
Nephrology sub-division started in Pediatric unit-1 in 2004
- Previously 4 beds in 2004 & Nephrology follow up clinic
- Hemodialysis Unit Established in 2017 (TZP Trust + N-24 Batch NMC)
- CPSP Accredited Department since 2019.
- Currently 20 beds, Daily Emergency admissions
- Follow up clinic twice/week
- 06 Hemodialysis machines
