Right To Information (RTI)

Aboute RTI Act

What Is RTI?

Under Article 19-A of the Constitution, RTI (Right to information) is a fundamental right of every citizen of Pakistan to have the right to have access to information in all matters of public importance subject to regulation and reasonable restriction imposed by law. A citizen in addition to a government department can also have access to information of a private body which is substantially financed by the government. RTI is based upon the principle that citizens being tax payers are owners of public information. RTI boosts transparency, accountability, elimination of corruption and improvement of public service delivery.

How RTI can help you?

The information got through RTI enables citizens to hold public officials accountable for their actions, to comment upon their performance, to conduct survey on the basis of data received through RTI and to indicate gaps and weaknesses of public bodies.

The government also benefits from RTI by becoming aware of gaps and weaknesses of public bodies. RTI also helps public officials by making it easier for them to carry out their duties more efficiently.

How NMU Facilitate RTI?

NMU considers that enlightenment of citizens to hold public officers/officials accountable is legal and ethical right and for this very reason and keeping all the efforts done by RTI Commission to maintain transparency, NMU has taken following immediate actions to join hands in hands with RTI Commission Punjab

History of NMU

History of NMU

The idea of establishing a medical teaching institution in Multan was first forwarded by Dr. Mohammad Jamal Bhutta in 1945. At that time, there was only one medical college in Punjab, that is, the King Edward Medical College in Lahore. The ratio of Muslim students in this college was very low. After the birth of Pakistan on the 14th of August, 1947, the Hindu doctors migrated to India. There was need for more doctors for the health care of people. The government of the Punjab decided to establish a new medical college and hospital at Multan. On 31st December 1950, at a largely attended public meeting held at Lahnge Khan’s Garden adjoining the Civil Hospital Multan, the Governor of the Punjab Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar made the announcement of the decision by the government of Punjab to establish a medical college and hospital at Multan. It was named as Nishtar Medical College and Hospital to honor Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar. A donation of 1.815 million rupees was presented to the governor by the people of Multan for the construction of the college. This donation increased to 3.3 million rupees later on.

THE NAMES TO REMEMBER:

Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar laid the foundation stone of the college on 28th April 1951. The construction work for the college started on 10th July 1951, when the ground was first broken to dig up the foundation on the south west corner of the Anatomy department. Vice Chancellor Message

Vice Chancellor Message

Prof. Dr Rana Altaf Ahmed

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome to Nishtar Medical University as a Vice Chancellor. Nishtar Medical University is one of the premiers, historical and prestigious institution established in 1951-52. Nishtar Medical University has always occupied a unique position in the public sector universities, being the first and by now only medical university of south Punjab. It serves an excellent interface between health care provisions and medical education. Its allied hospitals are bearing the brunt of south Punjab and adjoining areas of Sindh, Baluchistan and KPK. Nishtar Medical University Hospital, being the constituent hospital, is providing exemplary medical education to undergraduate and post graduate medical and paramedical students. It is imparting community-oriented self directed learning, altruism, professionalism and leadership in its students since long.
My aim is to make it a state of the art medical university, capable of nurturing the undergraduate and post graduate students with quality teaching and training. It should be able to promote the culture of research and ethical orientation. It must inculcate the true sense of education into the students. However this aim challenges both students and faculty members to rise to their potentials, identify their strengths, and direct to acquire much-needed lifelong learning skills for academic and social pursuits. The ever-expanding faculty of Nishtar Medical University consists of scholars, professors and specialists, who are committed to the highest standards of teaching, training, research, and service delivery. All of us can lead this university into an era of innovation and cutting-edge scientific inquiry with a truly scientific, social, and economic impact.
